Someone leaves home, in their car and immediately turns on the radio. The same individual enters their job and listens to music with their headphones. And if you decide to walk around town, don't forget to plug them in!
This urban behavior of the contemporary man constitutes a cut with the crossing of space that characterizes the city; a cut with the real made from the vision and recognition of others; and a substantial change in the perception of the subject on the urban landscape, the physical, architectural thread which always composed the town. The urban man of Aristotle, a living being (zoon) born for city life (bios politikós) are in change because of the mobile devices of sound reproduction. And this influence affects the substance of the city, its urbanism and architecture, that is, its materiality.

For this workshop, the Institut für Raumexperimente will coordenate a publishing experiment as part of the Institute Effect, to address and generate times and spaces of intimacy in the city. Urban space and publishing have been intimately linked throughout history. Publishing being part of the institute’s research and production tools, visitors are invited to engage, bringing in their own experience of intimacy, of shared public spheres, of making things public. Through a series of urban experiments, editorial meeting, reading group, warm-up walk, and publication release party, we’ll discover together where the city leads us.

WORKSHOP LIGA 12: MMX (MEX).
11, 12 & 16, 17 November 2013
The Institute Effect, Lisbon Architecture Triennale
MUDE – Museu do Design e da Moda

LIGA & MMX invite you to be part of the project: LIGA 12, COEXISTENCES. A LIGA installation, design by the Mexican architecture firm: MMX for the Third Edition of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale.

LIGA | SPACE FOR ARCHITECTURE | MEXICO CITY
LIGA, space for architecture, is an exhibition platform in Mexico City established to promote the exchange of ideas and investigation on contemporary architectural practice in Latin America. It is a space of encounter to enhance the dialogu amongst professionals and those interested. We focus mainly on Latin America, but the space is open to other international proposals to expand contexts and open the debate.

LIGA 12: MMX (MEX)
As part of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, LIGA presents a double exhibition, simultaneously showcasing Portuguese studio RCJV in Mexico City and Mexican architectural firm MMX in Lisbon, Portugal. MMX generates an insight on scale, content and frequency by multiplying the space of LIGA in the large second floor gallery of MUDE (Museum of Design and Fashion of Lisbon). LIGA could fit as many as thirty times within the 561 m2 of MUDE, which means that, taking size as the main reference, MUDE could feature the work of up to thirty architectural firms: the same physical volume that would be achieved after eight years of exhibitions. MMX will install a repetition of LIGA’s perimeter through vermillion fabrics tightly bound around metallic columns that created a diagonal field that saturated MUDE’s space. The geometrical and spatial attributes of each space create a dialogue with each other in order to explore the possibilities of content, establishing a new relational organization.

MMX
Established in 2009 MMX Studio emerges as a collaborative team based in Mexico City focused on the design process at the various scales of the territory. Founded by Jorge Arvizu, Ignacio del Rio, Emmanuel Ramirez and Diego Ricalde, the studio nourishes from the solid trajectory of its members backed up by the experienced acquired in both national and international renowned architectural studios. Their design, synthesis of their collaborative approach, promotes a collective participative environment that directly informs their work. Open to any scale of intervention, the office develops ideas that range from design and installations, to architecture and urbanism. Due to its physical, economic and social context, the team acknowledges each individual project as a unique challenge that requires a precise and customized design process for their successful conceptualization and maturity.
